Oily hair ??

Anyone else having crazy oily hair this winter ? When I say  " winter " that is very mild here in California ;) Howeve, anyone that knows me, knows I only like to wash my hair every 4 days or so. The last few months I cant go more then every other day. Super depressing. Seriously such a hassle, and more heat stress on my hair, more time that I don't have *wah wah wah *

Trying this tomorrow. Pretty please Davines help me out here #c'monHairgods

Davines Rebalancing Shampoo

Kitchen scissors for haircuts ?

Ok, raise your hand if you have ever cut someones hair with a $ 5 pair of kitchen scissors ??  Does it do the job ? Or does it not cut the exact way you want it to ?

Most likely they did not cut well. They are dull and meant for cutting paper and cost $ 5.

In this picture there are 3 scissors: $ 5, $ 150 and $ 700. Do you see a diference ? The blades are different widths, lengths, smoothness and different angles

The scissors on the left are my absolute favorite shears for cutting hair. They are smooth and precise when I cut hair and are the perfect length for texturizing. I dropped them a few weeks ago and I had to pay $ 35 to have them " sharpened/fixed ". I could buy 7 pairs or scissors on the right with that money.

Moral of the story is: Don't cut your hair at home but IF you are going to at least go to Sally's and buy a pair of resonably priced shears.  A decent pair of scissors will help SO much.

Also did you know that in order to become a hair stylist in California you have to complete 1600 hours of education and something crazy like 100 + haircuts before you are licensed ?

Trust us, we know what we are doing...

- signed put down those scissors at home and reach out to a stylist :)

No one wants green hair !

With summer approaching, we all went to get in the pool or ocean or lake. One of the most common things I see in the Salon is the lack of knowledge of how to take care of your hair during these few months. Here are a few tips for you:

1. Most important thing to do is to saturate your hair with regular water before you get into the pool. Your hair is like a sponge and will absorb the chemicals and chlorine immediately if it is dry and porous.

2. After wetting your hair, try applying a conditioner on your ends. I usually apply mine ear level down. This will also help your ends from drying out and getting green.

3. Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner specific for swimmers hair. I personally have not used this Malibu Swimmers Line  but have heard nothing but great things about it.

4. Use a good deep conditioner at least once a week. My current favorite is Davines Vegetarian miracle conditioner. Hair feels amazing afterwards

If you listen to at least one of these points that will make my day !

Who is coloring your hair ?

Who is coloring your hair ? Are they knowledgeable? Use good color and product?  My client "R" started coming to me last August. Her hairdresser of 10+ years had been doing her hair. Somehow she completely melted her hair off in MANY areas. I was SHOCKED to say the least.

I feel like I have worked with such talented hairstylists that I forget that there are some stylists out there that don't have the talent and just don't care.

Here is a picture of her hair TODAY after using Davines products for months. So in this picture her hair is longer and healthier then it was 6 months ago.  Do you see the melted blond piece ?

image.jpg

She has used Davines Melu Shampoo and Conditioner and Davines Oi shampoo and conditioner along with Oi Milk ( acts as a leave in conditioner ) and Davines Oi. I think she also used Davines Nou Nou Pak deep conditioner.

image.jpg

Her goal last year was to have overall red color with blond highlights. This is what she ended up with. Broken blond pieces all throughout her hair with a orange/red color.

The first time she came to me I told her I would not put color through her ends ( honesty is my middle name ).   I touched up her roots and sent her home with a lot of Davines product to begin repairing her hair. Finally six months later I was able to color her whole head and give her some caramel highlights with a rich brown.

image.jpg

Ideally she would like her highlights to be a little lighter but she knew it was baby steps.

She was THRILLED with her hair, as was I. Its finally feeling and looking healthy. In 8 weeks when I see her again I think we will FINALLY have gotten rid of all the old color. So total it will have taken 10 months for her hair to recover from the bad color job.

Moral of the story is: know who is coloring your hair or make sure they have been recommended. Not everyone has the passion, love and talent for hair color <3

My hair product at home

As I am always cleaning my house, I came across my mounds of hair product today. 22 to be exact ( this does not count travel and shampoo and conditioners ). Sooooo I have some favorites, some freebies I've received and some leftover discontinued products from my Salon.

Sooooooo here is how my current stash looks in my bathroom:

PRoduct.jpg

First off most importantly here are my dry shampoo's lol :

photo 2 (1).JPG

My favorite from left to right: Davines Hair refresher, Alterna Bamboo Cleanse Extend, Surface Trinity Dry shampoo, Matrix Clean Remix, Bedhead Rockaholic, Redken Powder Refresh. The last three I could do without.

Here is my second group of products ( fav from left to right ):

product2.jpg

Davines Defining Hairpsray ( was discontinued but is a good hairspray ), Alterna Boho Waves ( a good sea salt spray ), Davines Melu Serum for split ends, Bamboo uplifting root blast ( use for lift at roots ), Pureology In charge hair spray and Bamboo Kendi Oil ( Leftover from the salon. I like it but too heavy for my hair ).

Following products are leave in conditioners that I use in the summer or when I cut my kids' hair.

prod 1.jpg

Hemp z leave in detangler ( too sweet smelling for me ), 12 benefits  healthy hair treatment, Davines Su body & hair oil, Pureology Essential Repair Colour Max. I would say out of all of them 12 benefits is my favorite leave in conditioner. I use it only when I cut my boys' hair or when I forget to put conditioner in someones hair. For how many deep conditioners I have, we don't use them very often........

So last but not least these are products I could do without ( for my hair type of course )

product3.jpg

From left to right:

Awapuhi Hydrocream whip ( good to plump up the hair but I rarely blow dry my hair ), Bamboo Luminous shine mist weighs down my hair, Bumble and Bumble Tonic Lotion ( love this stuff but it is better layered with prep which I don't have ), Pureology Essential Repair ( a good product but I forget to use it on my ends ), Awapuhi Styling treatment Oil ( a good oil for maybe thicker hair ), Bamboo Volumizing Liquid Powder ( great volumizer but I can feel it too much in my hair ). Strangely I love product but don't like it to " feel " like there is product in my hair.

So there ya go ! I also had a nail polish remover, old perfume and mac brush cleaner in my bin. Think I will be purging some of these products. Let me know if you have any questions, just leave a comment on this post.
